When I was a teacher in traditional schools, I always wished I could involve parents more in the educational process. I’d sit down with my colleagues after reviewing a child’s work, brainstorming strategies to help them succeed, and I would often think, “Why aren’t parents part of this conversation?” After all, they know their children better than anyone else.
As a mom myself, I knew I was the expert when it came to my own kids. I was the one who knew exactly what they needed by the sound of their cries. That connection, that deep understanding of what they needed, stayed with me as they grew older. While I needed a village to help support me, no one knew my kids like I did.
