Blooming in Their Own Time: Easter Lessons for Growing Minds

I often get asked why I would create such a "niche" school centered on Christ. The answer: Christ is not niche, He is everything. The bible contains all the truth and wisdom we need to carry us through every season of life. This Easter Sunday, for example, was not only a reminder of the profound love Jesus has for us, but of the way we should approach life's challenges. It reminds us that it is okay to sit with the sorrow Friday brings, because Sunday is coming.

Before there was an empty tomb, there were three silent days. Before there’s a blossom, there’s a seed breaking open underground.

We remind our students—and ourselves—that not all growth is loud or visible. We don't jump into the curriculum until we spend time in the soil with a child. Sometimes a child is building confidence before they speak up in group. Sometimes they’re learning how to try again after a mistake. We don’t rush those moments. We honor them. Just like spring, their growth unfolds in time. And it’s always worth the wait.

Easter reminds us that one hard season does not define the next one. There's always room for a fresh start, a new strategy, a clean page.

We remind our students that mistakes are not the end—they’re invitations to grow. That who they were last week, last month, or even last year doesn’t limit who they can become.

We see it in our families, too.

Parents who feel overwhelmed find new hope. Children who once resisted reading begin to light up with joy during literacy time. Educators who were burned out rediscover purpose in a more connected, student-centered environment.

This isn’t just a school—it’s a space of becoming. For all of us.

The Easter story is, at its heart, a story of radical love. And that love is what makes growth safe. It’s what gives children the freedom to try, fall, and rise again.

At Lucas Literacy Lab, we aim to reflect that same kind of love—patient, present, and without condition. The kind of love that believes in each child’s potential, even when they can’t see it themselves yet.

Growth doesn’t need to be fast to be real.

Beginnings can come after brokenness.

And children, like flowers, bloom when they’re ready.

May this Easter season fill your home with peace, your heart with hope, and your children’s minds with the courage to grow in their own time.

Happy Easter from all of us at Lucas Literacy Lab.
