About the event
The Mona Lisa Vanishes: A Legendary Painter, A Shocking Heist, and the Birth of a Global Celebrity by Nicholas Day is a nonfiction middle-grade novel that reveals the secrets of the Mona Lisa, showcases the life of genius and revolutionary, Leonardo Da Vinci, and transports readers back in time to the exhilarating birthplace of the Renaissance. During March, we will be taking a deep dive into this book and meeting twice to discuss and create.
Our First Meeting: March 14th 2-4pm
What to Bring: Your copy of The Mona Lisa Vanishes by Nicholas Day
All art supplies will be provided.
During our first meeting we will discuss pages 1 - 126. We will dive into the architecture of the Louvre, the far-reaching effects the Mona Lisa's theft had on the world, and why the Renaissance was the perfect time for her kidnapping. We will also create our own labyrinth-style marble runs to replicate the theft and the structure of the Louvre.
Our Second Meeting: March 28th 2-4pm
What to Bring: Your copy of The Mona Lisa Vanishes by Nicholas Day
All art supplies will be provided.
During our second meeting we will discuss pages 127 - 252. We will dive into the crime, the criminal and the detectives. We will also touch on the new technologies of the day that made The Mona Lisa's recovery possible, as well as Leonardo Da Vinci's technique that made his work irresistible, and what made Mona Lisa (Lisa Gherardini) a worthy subject for his art. We will also create self-portraits.
